Posted by Hunter

Use of the Las Vegas Monorail has dipped in the last month according to this story in the LVRJ.

The Monorail is still well short of breaking even.

I have not been on the new monorail yet but I did go on the old one from the MGM to Bally's. I just think the location and walk to the stations are not worth it unless you are going from one end of the strip to the other. People are figuring this out and just taking a cab or walking straight up the strip. If the city had a clue they would have built the thing right up the middle of the strip and then they would not have enough room for all the people who would use it.

I totally agree, although Clark County and the Strip casinos spent a fortune on the beautiful landscaping in the Strip median. I think that once it actually goes downtown AND to the airport, it will really pay off. It's ridiculous that they haven't really even started on the planning of the route to the airport (that I'm aware of at least).

I haven't been on the monorail... Hunter, what's your evaluation of it - I haven't seen anything posted on it previously. (?)

Personally, I am not as down on the monorail as some folks. Yes, it is a walk but if you're going from say MGM to the LVCC or Sahara, it can be a good way to travel.

I meant to try the monorail this week, but didn't make time for it.

Wynn has a great set up. Take a Wynn shuttle bus which drives on a perimeter road on the inside of the golf course and drops passengers at Paradise, across the street from the Convention Center and its monorail station. It would be a great way to get to any big convention such as G2E in September, but I would guess Wynn would demand a room key to let you on. Otherwise, everyone would park in the Wynn garage and take the shuttle.
