When opened in 1989 it began a building boom on the Strip and it continues to amaze even today. Original construction cost was $630 million dollars and it was the first of the modern "mega resorts". A $32 million dollar redesign of the guest rooms was completed in March 2002 and a early-2003 pool renovation has updated one of the resort's key features. High speed Internet access added to guest rooms in January 2004. 2005 and 2006 have brought dramatic new changes to The Mirage - an almost total replacement of the fine dining restaurants and a new Cirque du Soleil show based on the music of The Beatles.
