You wouldn’t believe what’s behind the door, hidden in a corner of the casino. Fantastic ambiance, excellent service, great food. Worth the trip.

I made reservations for a party of 8 to celebrate a 50th birthday. I checked with a concierge to find a nice place in the Bally’s area. She suggested Les Artiste. I checked the internet and it said we should expect to pay $35 to $50 per person. We expected to pay more than that from the start, but were all surprised at the total. Basically, it cost almost $100 each with tip. I have eaten in many nice resturants that I would consider to be in the high end category. Emeril’s at MGM Grand, Mesa Grill in NYC to name a couple. I don’t recall ever being charged $3.50 per person for water. When the waiter asked if we wanted sparkling water or flat, we all agreed later that the answer should have been TAP. The steaks and seafood were good, but nothing special. To make matters even worse, I ended up getting something stuck in my esophagus, wasn’t able to eat but a few bites of my steak, spent a good bit of time in the bathroom with a doctor (it’s always good to travel with a physician) and almost had to go the emergency room. Their response was to send a uniformed security officer to the table to file a report (for my safety I’m sure) and didn’t even offer to comp the meal that I wasn’t able to eat. I’ll be sure to avoid Les Artiste in the future, as will the other members of our group.

Just got back from LV. Had a chance to have dinner at Les Artistes Steakhouse in the Paris. I will rank it below Blackstone’s in the Monte Carlo. Since these are the only two Las Vegas steakhouses I’ve eaten at to date I will try and describe Les Artistes to you as best I can while I compare it to Blackstone’s.

We were seated in a semi-private room upstairs. The walls featured dark wood paneling, overhead lighting and tall back chairs with arm rests. The lighting was more office like than casual or romantic. Blackstone’s for example has overstuffed tables and booths with the boots featuring overstuffed leather sofa seating that wraps around you. They feature table lighting and some very dim overhead lighting, which if I were on a date would be the preferred lighting.

I started with the crab cakes, they come two to a plate and frankly I was expecting more of them so I could share but I overestimated the portioning. Taste was just okay, I’ve had better for far less money. I also had the lobster bisque, it comes served with a puff pastry covering over the bowl, resembling a pot pie. This presentation did add something to the flavor as the pastry gave some texture to the soup that one doesn’t usually get when ording lobster bisque. It’s flavor ranked in the top three bisques that I’ve tried and I would highly recommend it to anyone who eats at Les Artistes.

Les Artistes steak is very good quality meat, It cuts like a hot knife through butter and was also quite juicy. I had the filet mignon ($42) but it lacked good flavor in my opinion, perhaps they don’t season it in any way. I didn’t enjoy Les Artiste’s Filet Mignon as much as the Ribeye I had at Blackstone’s, but it was still a good steak, I’ll reserve calling a steak excellent only when I can consider it the best steak I’ve ever had. So far that honor belongs to Bern’s Steakhouse in Tampa, FL.

The side items left me unimpressed, it was the skinniest asparagus I’ve ever seen, and the ‘trio of mushrooms’ was not nearly as good as the mushroom sauce that I had substituted for bernaise with my steak. The mushroom sauce was excellent, it complemented the steak’s flavor so greatly that I felt compelled to criticize the steaks ‘naked’ flavor as bland. I don’t think I could have enjoyed the meat nearly as much had it not been for the mushroom sauce. The filet comes with bernaise and you have to ask for the mushroom sauce to be substituted.

The dessert I tried was the Creme Brulee and I was disappointed. I had hoped that a French themed hotel would take more pride in their brulee but it was really average at best. I’ve enjoyed better creme brulee at the sushi buffet across the street from my office. I’m a dessert junkie, and frankly I was disappointed in the selection of desserts, they had no less than three desserts featuring chocolate mousse, which is good on it’s own but I’d prefer a little more variety. I couldn’t help but talk to the other guests about how much I had enjoyed the Baked Alaska I had eaten at Blackstone’s.

The service at Les Artistes is top quality. The server was very knowledgeable and not afraid to give you his opinion on menu items. My wife was sick and couldn’t attend the dinner, so I gathered some of the leftovers to take back to our room and try to get her to eat, she had a bad belly. Her only request before I left the restaurant was that I try to get some ketchup. So I asked the server if he could give me any ketchup in a to go container. I was expecting some sort of plastic ramican with a lid but he handed me a brand new full bottle of Heinz. That’s good customer service when you go beyond a person’s expectations and for that I am grateful to Les Artistes Steakhouse.

We had 8 people at Les Artistes, thats the same number of people we had at Blackstone’s, this time the bill was $800 with tip, Blackstone’s was $600 with tip.

Overall, I have to say Les Artistes ranks as one of the best steakhouses I’ve tried. I do have to order it below Blackstone’s, the only other Las Vegas steakhouse I have tasted, because the Steak is the most important part of eating at a steakhouse and Les Artistes didn’t quite matchup to the better flavored ribeye I ate at Blackstone’s.

We held our reception at Les Artistes. We were automatically palced in a private room that was just the right size for our party (11 people) with a server who was a hoot! He was very attentive and funny. The atmosphere was nice, a bit dark in our room, but very tastefully decorated and the stained glass is awesome. The food I thought was ok. I admit I expected a bit more considering the price, but it was not bad. We would eat here again for a special occasion for sure.
