When in Vegas, fine steak is a must. Nero’s classic turn as an Italian Steakhouse is worth a visit. The food is excellent, the service is excellent, and, well, its located in the oldest remaining part of the classiest oldschool joint in Vegas, Caesars Palace. After dinner turn left and walk past Cleopatra’s Barge and the adjacent lounge once featured in the Rain Man movie (where Raymond is picked up by a hooker – not that that kind of things still happens in Las Vegas)...

Let me begin by pointing out the one positive note from this experience was that the service at Nero’s was great, they were very accomodating and respectful. Now the bad part. I just returned from vacationing in Vegas for the first time and my fiance and I ate at Nero’s thinking it was going to be as outstanding as its reputation indicated, however nothing could be further from the truth. I ordered a chicken dish with ricotta gnocchi and she ordered a fish that was supposed to be similar in taste and price as a chilean sea bass. First off my chicken was unseasoned and fried on the outside (had to even peel the skin off). Strike one. My gnocchi was not only fried and tasted horribly, but it had the look, taste, and texture of breakfast potatoes. Strike 2. The fish that she ordered was also fried to the point that it was simliar to something you would receive in a hospital cafeteria. Strike 3. It was accompanied by a less than inspiring risotto as well, lacking in both consistency and flavor. She didn’t even eat her dish, just kind of moved the food around the plate to avoid another headache. Oh and I almost forgot we even sent back her appetizer which consisted of one crab cake the size of a deck of cards (which was $18) and it was so incredibly salty that it was completely inedible. The place was barren on a Saturday night which I found particularly surprising until I tried the food and then knew why. I hate complaining about things like this but if I have to shell out 200 bucks ($40 for a small plain chicken breast) because the Chef is supposedly “world-renown” I demand the food to be excellent.

Very good food, a little pricy, but what do you expect these days? Dinner for 2 with apetizers ran ~150ish. But the food was amazing so I am not complaining one bit.

A bit inconsistent, but fantastic when they’re on. Most of the time its great steaks and seafood. Often celebrities dining. Luck out and get Ursula as you server and you’re in for a treat.
