Will be making first trip to Vegas during March Maddness, which sports book is the best for watching games? Do most sports books comp drinks for sports bettors? Thanks for the help.

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Some are better than others for drink service… Bellagio and Mandalay Bay have excellent sports books with comfortable seats. Try those first!

who would you recommend for sightseeing tours from las vegas & why please? we’re looking at going to grand canyon

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Several pages in to the Q&A section here, the same question is posted. Action Tours (http://www.actiontours.com) are often recommended, though I haven’t used them.

RateVegas User asked on 02/27/01

I just received an offer to stay at the polo towers – 3 nights – 4 show tickets – $100 credit($1 slots) at the Tropicana. Should I jump on this?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

It sounds like a good deal, though you didn’t mention the cost, if any, to the package. Have fun!

RateVegas User asked on 02/20/01

Can anyone rate NYNY Hotel and Casino for me. We are
going to Vegas on April 18 for six days, have reserva-
tions there. How is food, room, best floor to avoid
the roller coaster noise, etc.
Thanks

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

I’ve stayed there twice but my opinion seems to be a contrast from others on this property. I think the facade, roller coaster and casino are great. I thought the rooms were small and the service was lacking. Higher floors will have less coaster noise and the coaster does stop running at midnight most nights. I’ve not eaten at any of their full service restaurants but I’ve heard they are quite good.

RateVegas User asked on 02/20/01

which casino will give me the most $$$??

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Hmmmmm… If I knew that, I wouldn’t be here.

RateVegas User asked on 02/20/01

Hi!
Is there a new or refurbished hotel called ’Terrible’and is it worth booking as they offer reasonable prices for us Canadians?
Is it also close to the strip?
Thanx…..

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Yes, it is refurbished from the former Continental hotel. It’s located on Flamingo Road, about a half mile from the Strip. It looks nice but I haven’t been inside. You’d probably be forced to take cabs to the Strip or at least a long walk.

RateVegas User asked on 02/17/01

Is it theater seating at “O” and “Mystere”? I’m going with a friend who is rather large-do you know how wide the seats are? About the same size as a first-class airline seat, etc.?
Thanks

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Yes, it is theater seating. I’ve been to both shows and I don’t recall exactly how big the seats are. I’m not sure if they are quite as large as a first class airline seat. I do remember them being quite comfortable though.

RateVegas User asked on 02/16/01

IS 15 DAYS TOO LONG? any ideas on what to do?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

I think 15 days is great! It depends on if you gamble, how much money you can afford to bring, etc… If you wanted to, you could eat in a different restaurant for every meal and see a different show everynight. Even stay in a different Strip hotel every night! You might consider splitting your trip into two or three hotels to get some flavor of different places.

RateVegas User asked on 02/15/01

After reviewing the web site I lacked to find any infromation
on the San Remo Hotel. Would you have any comments on this
hotel. (quality, location, and value)

Thanks in advance!

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

There are several casinos that still need to be added to the site and the San Remo is one of them. I have not stayed in the hotel but I have read reports by people who say it is just fine if you’re looking for a place to stay. I would guess that the service and amenities are not at the same level of other hotels, but that may not be important to you.

RateVegas User asked on 02/09/01

Would you recommend staying on the strip or downtown.

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

This is a tough question. For someone who has never been to Las Vegas before, I would say that staying on the Strip offers the best taste of a full Vegas experience. The Strip casinos usually have higher limits and tighter comps, along with more expensive (and usually nicer) rooms. Downtown you’ll see smaller casinos with more real gamblers than people sightseeing. I’d try both and see what you like best!

RateVegas User asked on 02/09/01

Hi! I will be staying at the Lady Luck in April, does anyone have any info. on the place they could share? I am especially curious as to what the garden rooms look like…are they clean? shabby? etc….
thanks,

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

You can view ratings from site users here: Lady Luck.

RateVegas User asked on 02/04/01

can you suggest the list of places must be visited when I will be in Las Vegas during the March.

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

If I had to pick must see places, I would definately include: the Fountains of Bellagio, the Mirage volcano, NYNY roller coaster, Stratosphere Tower, a trip downtown, and general casino crusing. You can check the pages here at this site to see what other people have liked in regards to attractions.

RateVegas User asked on 02/01/01

HI PLEASE HELP ME,
I HOPE YOU ARE READY FOR ALL OF THIS, OKAY, WE ARE COMING TO LAS VEGAS TO GET MARRIED NOT SURE EITHER OCTOBER-DECEMBER, DEPENDING WHAT THE WEATHER IS LIKE, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT SORT OF HOTEL IS BEST AS WE HAVE ONE CHILD, PREFABL

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Looks like part of your question got cut off… If you’re wondering where you should stay if you are coming with a child, I would suggest Treasure Island. They have a beautiful wedding chapel, a great location, good service, fun for kids and are reasonably priced!

RateVegas User asked on 01/30/01

Please define Resort Semi-Formal .

Thanks

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Good question. By Resort Semi-Formal I really mean slacks, nice shoes, and a button shirt with collar for men, and a nice pant suit or dress for women. Basically no tie or tuxedo, but still “dressy”.

RateVegas User asked on 01/29/01

Need list of hotel with wedding chapels and there rates. thank you.

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Rates will vary based on many factors, but I can clue you in on hotels with nice chapels… Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Paris, Treasure Island, the Venetian, Caesars and MGM all have very nice chapels. Other resorts definately have chapels as well, but these are the really nice ones. Congrats and good luck!

RateVegas User asked on 01/14/01

Have you heard anything about National Airlines future now that they’ve filed for Chapter 11? I am taking them to LV this spring and am concerned.

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

They are still operating and I haven’t heard of anyone with a ticket having problems. Still, I would keep an eye on the situation. Airlines file Chapter 11 all the time to reorganize their finances.

RateVegas User asked on 01/12/01

Rates at the Venetian—Late March — two people.

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

For hotel rates you can either check the Venetian page on my site and follow the link or go to the Venetian Web site directly.

RateVegas User asked on 01/09/01

I would like to know if Sigfried & Roy will be appearing in Atlantic City in the near future? I read an article in the newspaper some time ago about their plans to appear at Trump Plaza Hotel in 2001.

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

As far as I know they have an exclusive contract with the Mirage in Las Vegas that they just extended. So as far as I know, they won’t be in AC anytime soon.

RateVegas User asked on 01/09/01

i just read about a new casino
TERRIBLES at flamingo and paradise in our local paper, but can’t find anything online. heading out there in a couple of weeks from n.j. thanks

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Here is the Web URL: http://www.terribleherbst.com/ett-gaming/casino-hotel/index.html.

I haven’t been inside yet but I did drive by and it looked fairly nice.

RateVegas User asked on 12/30/00

My family would like to plan a reunion in Las Vegas.
We are looking for lodging for about 75 persons plus a community room. How can I get the most information without calling every hotle on the strip and in Vegas?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

First off I would try to figure out the budget for your get together… All hotels have group sales / convention arrangements that can be made… I would put together a one page description of your event needs and fax it to 5 or 6 hotels you are interested that you might guess would be in your price range (the Strip properties can be broken down into price grades pretty easily) and wait for the bids to come in.

RateVegas User asked on 12/20/00

I have always stayed at the Golden Nugget, but on my next trip I am going for budget, and staying at in a two-bedroom suite at the Plaza with friends. What are the suites like there? I have also heard they have improved their casino- is this true?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

From what I’ve seen, the two bedroom suites at the Plaza are just fine. It’s no Bellagio but you shouldn’t be disappointed… Though, for downtown, the Nugget is very hard to top. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the room either way.
The casino is fairly smokey. I haven’t heard of any extensive rennovations.

RateVegas User asked on 12/19/00

Just wondering if there was any websites or resources I could find that might have coupons or discounts to attractions, restaurants, etc. Two friends and I will be going down 12/29-1/02/01. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Good question!

In-Vegas.com

is a great resource for this kind of thing. Also, check out Vegas.com to get info on events for those couple days.

Being New Years, you should have plenty of options!

RateVegas User asked on 12/15/00

Hunter…I know you must get loads of questions of which some are
unanswerable. Unfortunately this is probably one of those.
Being overly loyal Steve Wynn supporters which hotel shold
we consider since the Bellagio is no longer his. The Four
Seasons

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

The Four Seasons is reputed as having EXCELLENT service. I am also a fan of Wynn’s work and have stayed at several of his properties (Bellagio and Mirage) since he left. I found that levels of service were just as high as when he was still there…

I’m sure if you asked Steve the same question, he would still consider Bellagio to be the best thing on the Strip… At least until his new project is completed!

RateVegas User asked on 12/14/00

Is Becky getting the act together at Binnions?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

This is a great question… I guess it depends on what you mean. I think closing the original coffee shop downstairs was a big mistake. They’ve opened a new coffee shop but it’s really just half of the buffet area… The gambling there is as good as ever, as is the Ranch Steakhouse but the rooms are in desperate need of a remodel…

RateVegas User asked on 12/05/00

DO you have transpportion from the air port (Carren)to the MGM Grand (3799) for 12/11/2000 & back 12/15/2000 ?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

The easiest way to get to the MGM Grand from the McCarren is to take Las Vegas Limo. $4 per person will take you to your hotel in style. Just head out of Door #5 and you’ll see their booth.

RateVegas User asked on 12/04/00

I had the sugar free cheese cake at the Rio world buffet is there anyway possible to get the recipe for that cake.

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

I doubt it. Like most chefs, the ones at the Rio guard their recipies closely… With so much competition in town they have to!!

RateVegas User asked on 12/01/00

somewhere i read that there is an ice skating rink in vegas. can you tell me if there is one and where. i will be there over christmas and we might try skating.also, another question. when i arrive in vegas what is the best way to get to my hotel. i k

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Are you arriving via the airport? If so, try Las Vegas Limo. They are outside door 5 down by baggage claim. $4 per person with get you to your hotel in style!

As far as ice skating, Santa Fe Station (formerly the Santa Fe), has a skating rink, though I’ve never used it.

RateVegas User asked on 11/28/00

I’m planning on going to the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels game on Dec. 16. Should I purchase a ticket online, or are there generally tickets available the day of the game? Where is the best place to park? Any suggestions would be appreciated?

MOTiger

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

While tickets are generally available at the game, it’s always a good idea to purchase tickets ahead of time “just in case”.

As far as parking, there should be ample parking available on campus, near the stadium.

RateVegas User asked on 11/27/00

Where can I find las vegas screensavers?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Vegas.com has a screensavers section. Scroll down to the bottom of the main page. It’s on the right hand side.

RateVegas User asked on 11/23/00

HAVE YOU TRIED GUSTAV MAULERS RESTAURANTS AT THE REGENT, SPIEDINIS AND OXO. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THEY WERE RATED ON YOUR WEB PAGE, THANKS PAUL STEELMAN

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

I have not tried either restaurant. I plan on adding more Off Strip properties to the site soon.

RateVegas User asked on 11/13/00

What is the name of the outdoor cafe/resturant at Paris and are there any reviews about it.Thanks!

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

It’s called Mon Ami Gabi. It is supposedly excellent, though I have not eaten there.

When you make your reservation, make sure you specify you want to sit outside, as it is quite popular. Also, I was there last week and it seemed as if the balcony was closed for Winter, as it was quite cold.

RateVegas User asked on 11/04/00

Do you plan to have newsletters? or updaates to email?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Yes, we are in the process of creating a whole new site that will have many new features, one of which is a newsletter. You’ll also be able to tell the system to update you if comments and ratings are added to certain things, like hotels and restaurants.

We’re really excited about the new site. I wish I could give you a definitive launch date, but we’re just not sure, as we’re rewriting everything from scratch!

RateVegas User asked on 10/08/00

I would like to know how long it would take to walk from the Tropicana Hotel to the Alexis Park Resort and Spa and what would be the best route to take.
Thank you very much.

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

I would recommend this route:

Walk North on Las Vegas Blvd. till you get to the Aladdin. Turn right on Harmon and Alexis will be a couple of blocks down. It’s 375 E. Harmon St.

As far as time, that depends on how fast you walk. It’s about 2 miles and a lot of that is on the Strip…

RateVegas User asked on 09/22/00

What tour company is recommended most often for flights to the Grand Canyon(air/ground)?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Action Tours (http://www.actiontours.com) is often recommended, though this author has never personally used them.

RateVegas User asked on 09/02/00

I have reservations at the Las Vegas South Strip Travelodge. Is this a decent, clean and safe place for a woman alone to stay? The price is right. All the good deals on the other hotels are not to be found. the location is perfect, I think, as I’m going

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

The Travelodge you’re asking about is located between the MGM Grand and the Aladdin, which is one of the safest places on the Strip. You should have no problems with safety. Travelodge has a good repuation for cleanliness, though I wouldn’t expect too much from the hotel in terms of amenities. Still, you’ll be close to all the action of the center/south Strip so have fun!

RateVegas User asked on 08/15/00

Does tipping the desk clerk for a better room really work?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

This gets asked a lot… Your mileage may vary but many folks report great success when slipping the desk clerk a $20… The worst that can happen is that they will tell you that they don’t have any upgrades available… Take the plunge and give it a try!!

RateVegas User asked on 08/15/00

What’s the best view at Mandalay Bay?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

This can be a matter of personal preference but it generally boils down to two of their available views… Most folks either want a view North up the Strip or they want a view of the pool… Views to avoid? The airport is probably the least appealing…

RateVegas User asked on 08/15/00

Are things changing/going to change at Mirage Resorts properties since the MGM buyout?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

There have been some subtle changes here and there, notably changes at two restaurants at Treasure Island and what looks like a change in the advance ticket purchase policy for their shows. I’ve also heard that they are planning on instituting a single players card that will work at all MGM MIRAGE casinos, sort of like Harrah’s Total Rewards card.

RateVegas User asked on 08/15/00

What’s the best way to get a deal on a hotel room?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

Shop around. Check with hotel discounters, like the one we link to, call the hotel themselves and see what kind of prices they have. This is the best way to get a good rate (short of losing a wad in the casino of course).

RateVegas User asked on 08/15/00

How do I find my slot points at Lady Luck off the net?

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

I am not aware of any casino that allows you to view your slot player account on the Web. It seems that most Las Vegas casinos are a tad behind the times when it comes to embracing the Internet… Most hotels just feature brochure-ware sites with links to reservation systems. I’m sure in the future we’ll see online slot club information but I don’t think we’re there yet.

RateVegas User asked on 08/15/00

WHATS UP WITH MAXIM HOTEL

Vegas Mate @ RateVegas answered:

The Maxim was bought by Revanche LLP earlier this year in a bankruptcy hearing… Not much else is known about the company or their plans at this point.
