We have the shiny chat room and readers have been doing ad-hoc chats since it opened. We've actually had some great discussions in there already... Still, I want to setup a real chat event so we can get even more of the regulars in there. I'm thinking a weekday evening. I am in the Pacific time zone but I know we have people spread all over the world. What works best for you guys? Leave info in the comments and we'll try to figure something out.

Beyond that, I've been toying with the idea of organizing a meet and taking it to the next step. By that I mean an actual event (probably a catered dinner in a ballroom or hospitality suite depending on number of people) that has a real 'speaker' of sorts. I'm thinking maybe an informal Q&A with a Vegas person - somebody that works for one of these places and somebody good. Not sure who we can get but I am confident we could get *someone* and that it would be a great time. I'd also love to invite some of the Vegas regulars that we cite often (i.e. Steve Friess and Miles from 'The Strip' podcast as well as some others) to join us as well.

Anyway, I want to gauge interest in this concept. Ideally, we (I guess me) would be able to pick up the cost for the event itself so your expenses would just be whatever your standard trip costs are. I don't want people not to be able to come because the actual event cost turns them off plus I've been trying to think of a way to say 'thanks' to you guys for some time.

Anyway, please comment - I'm very curious if there is interest in either idea.

Hunter, I'm more than enthusiastic about a community "meet", that would be incredible. It would be incredible to get DeRuyter Butler, Roger Thomas, or, even though its a long shot, Steve Wynn, himself.

Also, the idea of some planned chats is interesting. Setting up different times and different topics would be quite a bit of fun.

Good luck with setting these up Hunter, I can't wait to see what happens.

I'm very interested in both. Sundays generally work great for me when it comes to the chat. Maybe sometime in the early evening would make a nice compromise for those not in the pacific time zone.

As for the meet, I'm all for it. There are several here that I haven't yet met in person but would love to.

Just to set some realistic expectations, I think the chances of getting someone at Steve Wynn's level (CEO level) is basically impossible. That doesn't mean I wouldn't ask and make my case but I just seriously doubt it working out.

I was actually thinking of Butler and Thomas when I wrote the above and those are two of the guys I would invite/ask to speak to us as a group.

Anyway, thanks for the response.

You could get a casino host or two for a Q&A for general info. I'm EDT and Sundays would be best for me.

I'm also on Eastern Time and would be interested.

Okay, how about this for a chat:

Tuesday September 26th, 5pm PT / 8pm ET

That's next Tuesday evening... I know a couple of you guys said Sundays were good but I can't do it this coming Sunday so I wanted to see if Tuesday would work.

Fire back and let me know what you think.

I would love to meet everyone in Vegas. Actually from things i've heard and know, although very difficult, a showing by Steve Wynn would not be impossible. He responded to my letter, I think if we pled our case, he just might do it, if he could fit it in. Another long shot, one of my customers wives, well her cousin is Bobby Baldwin. But I'd much rather meet with Wynn people than MGM. But then again, beggers can't be choosers. Even if we got no major people, I'd just be happy meeting Hunter, MikeE, Detroit, and a few others I've chated with.

Tuesday at 8pm ET will be no problem for me...

Well as long as it is early enough any day is ok for me.

Tuesday would work for me, or he also Popular Sunday at that time would work too.

Starting to plan my next visit the week of Thanksgiving...

Unfortunately I work Tuesday's from 3-9pm pacific.

Ok, Tuesday is a tentative go so those of you that can make it, please mark it down and for those that cannot - sorry! We'll do more of these, it's sorta of a trial run anyway.

Transcripts should be able to be made available for those that cannot make it.

Okay.

The chat link is:

You do not need any special software, just a recent Web browser.

Firefox, Safari 2.0, IE 6 or 7 all work well.

I am going to try something new with this.

I am going to video blog/videocast myself participating in and reading the chat.

The video will then be posted to the new RateVegas podcast RSS feed, which will (not yet) be located here:
