Posted by Hunter

Well, I never thought I would ever have any content that would grace the pages of but it turns out I was wrong...

Our iPhone version of our ratings and comment database, RateVegas for iPhone is featured in Apple's Web apps directory for travel:

If you have an iPhone and are traveling to Las Vegas, give our tool a try - it's really easy to use it to find out what restaurants are near your hotel that don't suck.

Congratulations! This is a huge deal. I think I'll use this as the hook for my next LVBP column--new tech changing the game in Vegas for the better. I think this demonstrates the growing importance of Internet and wireless media in hospitality. You should be happy and proud.

Thanks Dave.

I'm a technologist at heart and I've been trying to experiment with new ways to bring good Vegas content to people *while they are in town*.

There's such an abundance of choice that it is overwhelming for some folks and I have a huge database of ratings and reviews to help guide folks to good experiences. That information is most valuable on the ground and this is an effort to make that easier.

I've had mobile sites for BlackBerry and Treo in the past but the iPhone site has really taken off - thousands of users on that sub-site per day!

It's interesting because you're doing something that's similar to what Harrah's is planning with Surface--a virtual concierge that is easily accessible in the casino. True, people can't redeem their Total Rewards points here, but they won't get unbiased restaurant reviews from the Surface interface, will they?

I've got a theory that, in the new economy of Las Vegas, information, not connections, is the new currency. So people like you are very important, because you can get more or less objective information to large numbers of visitors.

Thanks Dave, it's nice to know that others see value in this sort of stuff as well. I'm certainly planning to continue to push for more mobile tools.

On 11-7 on HD-Net the show Build It Bigger, will feature the building of the Palazzo. It should be good, and its already in my Tivo.

Yeah, this has already aired but I haven't seen it yet either. Tim from Five Hundy told me it was something worth seeing.

Hunter, you're too modest. LV Business Press has a story, courtesy of Dave Schwartz, on RateVegas on iPhone. Kudos to Hunter and to Dave for spreading the word.

"Apple's official Web site tabbed the iPhone-friendly version of RateVegas (a popular review site) as one of its featured applications.
Visitors who punch up RateVegas on their iPhones can access the site's impressive range of reviews on everything from buffets to off-Broadway shows. They can read about real experiences from real people and make decisions about where to spend their money."

The LV Review Journal is jumping on the bandwagon of using cell phones for Vegas information:

From the LVRJ article:
"Information is everywhere -- newspapers, magazines, radio, television, the Internet, billboards, shrink-wrapped buses -- and now your mobile phone."

Incorrect as written. *Advertising* is everywhere -- actual *Information* is still a rare and precious commodity.

Kudos to Hunter for continuing to try new stuff.
