According to a press release from the Golden Nugget Las Vegas, they have completed their long running set of renovations that include a second floor nightclub for Downtown.

The 'Gold Diggers' nightclub opens at 4pm and offers views of the Fremont Street Experience. Along with the club, they have opened a new restaurant called Red Sushi and also some meeting space called 'The Grand'.

Overall, it is nice to see continued investment into the Downtown property.

Great that they're putting money into the place. DT definitely needs some draws, like the new pool and new restaurants. I never thought it was a nightclub crowd tho -- figured what the place needed more was a Carnaval Court type party bar.

I haven't stayed at GN since sometime in the 1990's. I gave them a few bucks last year when I went to see the new pool and bar/restaurant, Grotto. This week, I got a mailing announcing the new club, Gold Diggers, along with 3-nights comped room each month during the 1st Quarter. Since my absence at Bellagio for more than a year has made my comps disappear there, I may try GN before spring.
GN's website has been improved, imo:

So what's the target market for the nightclub anyway? They can't possibly be going for the same clientele the strip attracts. On the site, there's no mention of bottle service, but I am surprised to see it's open until 4am. That'll probably wind up changing--Fremont street is practically a ghost town by 2am, even on a Sunday morning.

The target market is people in the rooms, I'd guess. They don't seem to have a problem putting people in the rooms downtown, they just have trouble keeping them from driving/busing off to the Strip to do practically anything.

I wouldn't expect a VIP line and high standards for the clientele, but then again folks who can't get into those kinds of places need somewhere to go, too.

I visited last year and thought they had done a good job.

Detroit, did you eat at Grotto? If so, I am thinking of going there when I visit next week, would you recommend it?

Cheers, Andrew

Andrew, I was there in November '06. The pool was still empty and I believe Grotto had just opened. I was there during the day and didn't eat there. There are a few not very good photos I took then:
