Las Vegas Sands To Replace Sands Expo Center

Posted by detroit1051

Las Vegas Sands hosted an Investors Day on February 11 in Las Vegas. Management presented detailed information on the company's operations in Las Vegas and Macau as well as on other projects being built or planned both in this country and overseas.

One important announcement was the plan to build a New Sands Expo at the corner of Koval and Sands. Once the facility opens at the end of 2010, the land that the existing Sands Expo Center sits on could be used for another resort or other purposes. The site is 20 acres and is part of the Venetian/Palazzo complex.

The Investors Presentation is available as a webcast and as a slide presentation. The slides of the New Sands Expo and of the 20 acres for future development are very interesting.

One additional point on the New Expo Center. The Koval side of the property is occupied by Wynn's employee parking garage. The slide shows that LVS will build around it and still be able to connect the New Expo Center to Venetian/Palazzo by a bridge/walkway at the south end of the property. I'm sure Adelson would have wanted that plot, but there's little chance Steve and Sheldon will come to terms on it now that Wynn's garage is up.

Daydreaming on a rainy day:
Is there any way LVS could do a hostile takeover of WYNN and then have probably close to 300 acres of Strip land all the way from Venetian to Encore and east to Paradise? Wow!

I remember last year LVS saying that they were going to do a third resort in Vegas and nobody could figure out where it would go, but now it makes sense.

As for the Wynn garage, they put up their employee skybridge already. LVS has approval for a public skybridge to their new expo center that somehow dodges the Wynn skybridge. Guess it goes over it or something. That'll be interesting to see how they configure that.

No LVS could not take over Wynn. Wynn and Okada own too much stock for that to happen. I don't know if Hunter recalls this, but close to probably a year ago now, I sent him an email, that I had heard that the Sands Expo center was coming down, and they were building a new one. He and I both thought it was crazy, but I guess my source was right, and it is in deed happening. Very interesting. I am not sure how much sense this really makes having it that far away. Being so close is their big selling point. It would almost make more sense, to rebuild it where it is, and then build hotels on top of it.

I have this visual of an intersection of the two skybridges (wynn's employee new MEGACENTER) meeting in a some sort of interior intersection and blood wars ensuing.

The Wynn employee garage gives my LOLS, A big FU to Sheldon from Steve.

Looks like another good plan from LVS. LVS doesn't give me many opportunities to say nice things about them, but this looks like a winner. Adding another 7,000 rooms to the vacated Sands Expo land would be madness.

The Venetian/Palazzo/Condo/Sands Expo Center corner is getting too crowded. Maximum use of space is fine, but this does not appear to be as well thought out as CityCenter. Do others see this as a healthy addition to the Strip?
